Many people building a personal brand copy-paste the same post to every platform — and end up doing none well while exhausting themselves. The sustainable approach is a content matrix: define each platform’s role so they do distinct jobs and feed each other.
Give Each Platform a Role
Different platforms have different readers, rhythms, and formats. Define the roles:
- Website: long-term asset and trust hub. Deep articles, cases, and searchable content settle here
- Newsletter: relationship layer. Adapt the website’s best into regular touchpoints that build ongoing connection
- Short video / social: reach and acquisition. Use fast, punchy formats to attract strangers, then route them to the site and your owned list
The website is “home,” social is “the sign out front,” the newsletter is “your list of regulars.”
One Parent Piece, Many Adaptations
A matrix isn’t multiple jobs. Write a solid parent piece on the site first, then branch by platform (see repurposing content). Short video takes one hook, a social post takes a few points, the newsletter does the deep read. One input, many outputs.
Design the Funnel
The value of a matrix is flow: a stranger meets you on short video → is drawn to a site article → subscribes to the newsletter → becomes a long-term relationship, even a client. Each platform should have a clear “next step” pointing to the next stop, not stand alone.
Master One or Two First
Don’t blanket every platform at once. Pick one acquisition platform plus the website “home,” master that, then add. Two channels that keep producing beat five half-dead accounts. A matrix grows over time — it isn’t rolled out overnight.
